Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) technology and production company LanzaJet has announced that it has successfully secured at least $20 million in new financing. The capital injection is earmarked to scale production and expand the supply of sustainable aviation fuel to global customers directly from the company’s Freedom Pines Fuels facility, situated in Soperton, Georgia.
The latest round of funding marks a significant milestone for the Illinois-based company, which was originally launched in 2020 by carbon recycling technology pioneer LanzaTech. Over the years, LanzaJet has developed and commercialized pioneering Alcohol-to-Jet (ATJ) technology. This proprietary process enables the large-scale production of SAF and renewable diesel derived from a diverse array of waste-based and sustainable ethanol sources. These inputs include low-carbon sugarcane, dedicated energy crops, forest residuals, agricultural waste, and various forms of organic waste, providing a vital pathway for decarbonizing the hard-to-abate aviation sector.
Expanding Support and Strategic Recapitalization
The newly announced financing is backed by key stakeholders, including carbon recycling parent company LanzaTech, prominent sustainable technology investor Vinod Khosla, and the broader LanzaJet Board of Directors. As a central component of this financial transaction, LanzaTech will significantly increase its equity ownership stake in LanzaJet, signaling deep confidence in the operational viability and commercial potential of the SAF producer.

According to the company, this fresh infusion of capital forms an integral part of a broader recapitalization and debt reduction initiative. The strategic financial maneuver has been undertaken collaboratively by LanzaJet’s shareholders and existing investors to strengthen the company’s balance sheet, optimize its capital structure, and establish a firm financial foundation for its next phase of industrial expansion.
Alongside the financing update, LanzaJet announced leadership transitions designed to steer the enterprise through its upcoming period of commercial growth. Jennifer Holmgren, the Chief Executive Officer of LanzaTech, will continue in her role as Chair of the LanzaJet Board of Directors and has stepped in to serve as interim CEO. Holmgren steps into the executive leadership role following the departure of outgoing CEO Jimmy Samaritzis, who recently announced he is stepping down from the post to pursue another leadership opportunity within the broader sustainable aviation fuel industry.
Reaching Commercial Milestones at Freedom Pines Fuels
The securing of this $20 million financing package follows a major operational milestone achieved by LanzaJet in late 2025. In November of that year, the company formally announced that it had achieved full plant operation and successfully produced fuel at Freedom Pines Fuels, which stands as the world’s first commercial-scale alcohol-to-jet production facility.

The groundbreaking Georgia facility features an annual production capacity of 10 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel. Importantly, the plant has already demonstrated its capability to produce commercial-grade fuels that successfully meet stringent ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) specifications, proving that the technology is ready to meet the rigorous safety and performance standards demanded by commercial airlines and global regulatory bodies.
Reflecting on the significance of the recent financing and the company’s operational trajectory, Jennifer Holmgren emphasized the unique position LanzaJet holds in the emerging green energy landscape.
"LanzaTech has taken first-of-a-kind technology to profitable commercial operation," Holmgren said. "With a larger ownership stake and the Board’s full support, we look forward to bringing Freedom Pines Fuels and future LanzaJet plants to the same commercial success."

As global aviation stakeholders face mounting pressure to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, technologies that can rapidly scale the supply of drop-in replacement fuels without competing with food crops remain essential. With fresh capital secured, an optimized balance sheet, and leadership continuity from its founding parent company, LanzaJet is positioning itself to play a central role in supplying the global aviation industry with the sustainable fuel volumes required to meet future climate targets.
