Sosteneo, the clean energy infrastructure investment unit operating under Generali Investments, has announced a major milestone in its fundraising efforts. The firm has successfully secured over €450 million, equivalent to approximately $504 million USD, in capital commitments for its second flagship fund. This substantial financial milestone includes more than €150 million raised in fresh fund commitments and co-investment capital during the vehicle’s first external close.
Launched in 2025, Sosteneo’s second flagship fund is strategically designed to target construction-ready clean energy infrastructure projects across various European markets. The investment strategy focuses on deploying capital where specialist capabilities in construction, rigorous financing, and sophisticated revenue contracting can actively support asset resilience and drive long-term value creation for investors. By concentrating on physical infrastructure that yields long-term, stable, and highly visible cash flows, the fund aims to address critical structural needs within the modern European power grid.

The scope of the fund’s target investments encompasses three core pillars of the evolving energy system. These include facilitating integration and grid flexibility, securing reliable clean energy supplies, and actively supporting the decarbonization of heavy industry. This comprehensive approach aligns with broader European regulatory and environmental goals, providing institutional investors with an avenue to participate directly in the continent’s ongoing green transition while pursuing predictable financial returns.
The robust momentum behind the second fund builds directly upon the strong market reception and operational progress of Sosteneo’s predecessor vehicle. Sosteneo’s first Clean Energy Infrastructure Fund successfully reached its final close last year, amassing over €2620 million in capital commitments alongside an additional €80 million in co-investment capital. The deployment of that initial capital pool has progressed rapidly, with Sosteneo reporting that approximately three-quarters of the first fund’s 39 projects are now fully operational.
The operational maturity of the first fund has begun translating into tangible financial returns for its backers. During the second quarter of 2026, Fund I initiated the distribution of income generated by its operating assets directly to investors. This distribution phase represents a critical transition from the development and construction phase to steady-state cash generation. Furthermore, the momentum of the first fund was underscored in the third quarter when it signed a formal agreement to sell an interest in an operating asset, marking the platform’s first partial realization and demonstrating the liquidity potential of its infrastructure portfolio.

The latest external close for Sosteneo’s second fund reflects a strong vote of confidence from both existing and new financial backers. The milestone capital injection includes a significant new commitment from the largest external institutional investor that participated in predecessor Fund I. In addition, the close secured fresh commitments from a cohort of new institutional investors drawn to the stability and risk-adjusted return profile of European clean energy assets. Generali Insurance Companies also participated with an increased commitment, reinforcing its role as the cornerstone investor across Sosteneo’s flagship fund series.
Umberto Tamburrino, Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer at Sosteneo, highlighted the significance of these developments for the broader platform. Reflecting on the trajectory of the firm’s maiden fund, Tamburrino noted that the team is very pleased with its continued progress, pointing out that the majority of its projects have reached full operational status just three years after the fund’s inception.
Tamburrino further emphasized that the commencement of regular income distributions and the execution of the first partial realization represent vital steps forward in the maturation of the portfolio. According to the CEO, Fund I continues to perform entirely in line with expectations, establishing a robust and credible operational foundation as the firm continues to scale the Sosteneo platform and deploy capital from Fund II into new European clean energy projects.
