LanzaJet Secures $20 Million in New Financing to Scale Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production and Bolster Commercial Growth

Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) technology and production pioneer LanzaJet has announced that it has successfully secured at least $20 million in fresh financing. The capital injection is designated to scale production and expand the supply of sustainable aviation fuel to global customers from the company’s flagship Freedom Pines Fuels facility located in Soperton, Georgia.

Launched in 2020 by prominent carbon recycling technology company LanzaTech, Illinois-based LanzaJet has established itself as an industry leader through the development of its proprietary Alcohol-to-Jet (ATJ) technology. This innovative process enables the large-scale production of sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel from a diverse range of waste-based and sustainable ethanol sources. These inputs include low-carbon sugarcane, dedicated energy crops, forest residuals, agricultural waste, and various forms of organic waste, providing a vital pathway for decarbonizing the hard-to-abate aviation sector.

LanzaTech Boosts Stake in SAF Business LanzaJet in New Financing Round

The newly announced financing round is backed by key strategic stakeholders, including parent company LanzaTech, prominent investor Vinod Khosla, and the broader LanzaJet Board of Directors. As a central component of these transactions, LanzaTech will significantly increase its ownership stake in LanzaJet, signaling deep confidence in the long-term commercial viability and strategic importance of the SAF producer. Furthermore, the company noted that this latest financing round forms an integral part of a broader recapitalization and debt reduction initiative undertaken collectively by LanzaJet’s shareholders and existing investors to strengthen its financial foundation.

In tandem with the financial restructuring, LanzaJet announced leadership changes designed to guide the company through its next phase of commercial expansion. Jennifer Holmgren, who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of LanzaTech, will continue in her role as Chair of the LanzaJet Board of Directors while also stepping in to serve as interim CEO. Holmgren steps into the executive operational role following the departure of outgoing CEO Jimmy Samaritzis, who recently announced that he is stepping down from his position to pursue a new leadership opportunity elsewhere within the sustainable aviation fuel industry.

LanzaTech Boosts Stake in SAF Business LanzaJet in New Financing Round

The securing of this $20 million financing package builds upon a major operational milestone achieved by LanzaJet in late 2025. In November of that year, the company proudly announced that it had achieved full plant operation and successfully commenced commercial fuel production at Freedom Pines Fuels, which stands as the world’s first commercial-scale alcohol-to-jet production facility. The state-of-the-art facility boasts an annual production capacity of 10 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel. Notably, the plant has already consistently produced high-grade fuels that successfully meet rigorous international ASTM specifications, proving the commercial readiness and reliability of LanzaJet’s technological approach.

Reflecting on the milestone financing and the ongoing commercialization trajectory, Jennifer Holmgren emphasized the transformative nature of the company’s achievements. LanzaTech has successfully taken a first-of-a-kind technology and transitioned it into profitable commercial operation, she noted. With a larger ownership stake and the unwavering support of the Board, the leadership team looks forward to replicating the success of Freedom Pines Fuels across future LanzaJet plants as the global aviation market increasingly demands reliable, low-carbon fuel solutions.
